Ex-Guerrilla Member Is Shot Dead in the Philippines
In Sorsogon province, R.E., a former member of the New People's Army (NPA), was murdered by two gunmen, in a hit apparently orchestrated by the NPA for "treason to the revolution". The NPA is the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines, which has fought an ongoing guerrilla conflict with the government of the Philippines since 1969. E. had surrendered to the government, alongside several other NPA members, in April 2018. Afterwards, he was reported to have worked alongside the Filipino police force and army, and an NPA court found him guilty of having murdered two farmer activists in 2019. |
