Colombia. In just one hour, there were three cylinder bomb explosions in Cali, the main city in western Colombia. They occurred in Meléndez, in the south of the city, and in the Marroquín, Manuela Beltrán, and Los Mangos neighborhoods in the east.

All are residential and commercial neighborhoods. A motorcycle guard in Meléndez died from the blast. In Los Mangos, another person died.

At around 3 a.m., authorities found two cylinder bombs on the road from Cali to the municipality of Andalucía. There were two more on the road leading to the airport in Palmira, the capital of Valle del Cauca.

In Jamundí, authorities defused a cylinder bomb that was left on the main road into the municipality, which is reached from the south of Cali.

In Buenaventura, Colombia's main Pacific port, a grenade was thrown and detonated at the Police Station in the Pailón neighborhood.

In Cauca: eight attacks in the same number of municipalities. The first attack occurred in El Bordo, in front of the Transit Department and very close to the Pan-American Highway that connects to Nariño.

The explosion caused damage to the mayor's office, homes, and several other businesses. No injuries were reported.

Shortly after, a second car bomb was detonated in the main park of Corinto, in northern Cauca. The municipal police station was attacked with rifle fire, killing one police officer.

There were also grenade launches in Buenos Aires, in northern Cauca; another at the Timbiquí military base on the Cauca Pacific coast; another launch in El Patía, using a drone; and there were attacks in the rural area of ​​Miranda against the Public Force.

In addition, Police patrolman Jair Gonzalo Gurrute, 24, was killed in Caloto, Cauca. He was shot by a sniper. And at the Villa Rica toll booth in the north of the department, a traffic police officer was killed.

The Ministry of Defense points to "Mordisco." It confirmed that the Jaime Martínez group, which answers to the command of dissident leader "Iván Mordisco," was responsible for the Cauca attacks.

"These terrorist acts are a response to the Armed Forces' offensive in the southwest of the country. We are reaching the nerve center of the "Mordisco" structures in the Micay Canyon, and the way to relieve pressure is by carrying out terrorist acts," said Minister Pedro Sánchez.

"This is an escalation of criminal activity by these criminals, targeting both police and civilians," said General Carlos Triana, director of the National Police. He also attributed the attacks to the anniversary of the killing of "Mayimbu," a dissident leader in Cauca.

So far, Petro's presence in Cali remains firm tomorrow, due to the march called by unions in support of the referendum he plans to decree, despite the Senate's opposition.

On June 13, President Iván Duque announced via Twitter the death of Leider Johnay Noscué Bototo, alias “Mayimbú,” in an army operation in the western department of Cauca. Mayimbú was the leader of a dissident faction of the now-defunct FARC guerrilla, also known as the ex-FARC Mafia, called the Jaime Martínez Mobile Column.

In 2018, the Jaime Martínez Mobile Column had expanded rapidly into crucial coca and marijuana production areas in the northern part of Cauca department and neighboring Valle del Cauca. Mayimbú’s leading position made him a high-value target for the Colombian government.

He was blamed for the 2019 murder of Karina García, a mayoral candidate for the municipality of Suárez, and for a wave of violence against Indigenous leaders in the region.
