British football fans. Psychos! It would have been just as absurd if Great White fans were to have been singing "Desert Moon" in the parking lot that night at the Station Nightclub.

My Uncle and Aunt died in this fire at Valley Parade , in Bradford .It was the tar sealant they used in the roof that excelled the flames and acrid smoke so quickly it was melting and dropping on to people rendering it impossible to find a safe route out, There is a memorial of remembrance there to this day and i often place flowers there , for some of us its still a very vivid memory, RIP, to all the casualties both Fatal and otherwise !

The amount of fans laughing and clapping was messed up.

I dont understand the consternation about peeps laughing and clapping. Its not a new thing that noone would piss on you if you were on fire at the side of the road. This is a realm of demons, and dont you forget it.

Re: England 1985 - Stadium on Fire - 56 Dead

This brings back memories of the Dupont Plaza Hotel fire, just a year after this on the last day of 1986. I lived less than a block away at that time, and from my balcony I could see the hotel. 97 people died in a matter of moments because some union people on strike set fire to the laundry underneath the casino, and just like with this, the fire spread so much faster than anyone could have predicted. And of course, the fire doors and escapes were all messed up or blocked, and people panicked and piled up against the casino doors that opened inward. Just an unbelievable site. The heat was awful, the smoke was awful, there was nothing anyone could do. And that smell you will never forget, of burning human.

Re: England 1985 - Stadium on Fire - 56 Dead

Oh, and everyone quit shitting on the supporters for laughing and clapping and otherwise doing things that seem crude. It's called paradoxical laughing. It is related to the flight-or-fight response. A certain percentage of every population will do this and it just happens. It's like no one here has ever responded to an emergency or served in combat. It happens as in a daze and they are not in control of their response. It doesn't make them terrible people. It just means their emotional and sensory bucket was overflowing. I saw it at the Dupont Plaza fire too.
