Elephants are VERY intelligent, and probably that mahout was a jackass. I have heard of elephants that stomped tigers to death, that were stalking their mahouts. It's all in how you treat them. If you are a good mahout, your elephant will watch out for you. If you are a jerk, eventually you will pay. I hope the destressing goes OK. I hope he has some time to relax and rest. And I hope they get him a better mahout. |

These elephants are subjected to severe abuse in order to “ break their spirit”. Many reach the point of deep mental issues and as demonstrated can and will eventually explode in a rage. Not the animals fault at all. Sad thing is, it is being sent away to de-stress where the abuse will be even more harsh.
