Dozens of people have died due to electric shock in the project under the Namami Gange project in Chamoli. A transformer exploded and fallen live wires electrified the metal railing.

According to the information till now, the laborers working under the Namami Ganga on the banks of Chamoli were electrocuted to death.
So far, 14 laborers have been reported to have lost their lives in the accident. There is a news of a policeman involved in the incident.

At least 15 people, including a policeman and three home guards, died due to electrocution after a transformer exploded on the banks of the Alaknanda River in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district on Wednesday, PTI reported. The incident occured at the site of the Namami Gange project.

"Around 15 people, including a police sub-inspector and five home guards, have died. Investigation is underway. Prima facie reveals that there was current on the railing and the investigation will reveal the further details," ANI quoted Additional Director General of Police, Uttarakhand, V Murugesan, as saying.

DGP Ashok Kumar told ABP News that the in-charge of the police outpost on the Badrinath Highway also died in the incident. Sources told ABP News that work was going on in Chamoli on an under-construction project under the Namami Gange program.
