A man died after being run over by a vehicle in the convoy of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in Guntur district.
The terrifying accident, reportedly took place on Wednesday near Yetukuru, was captured on camera. The video of the incident that has sent shock waves across the state.
The deceased has been identified as Singaiah, a resident of Vengalayapalem village in the district.
According to media reports, Singaiah had gathered along the roadside with other YSRCP supporters during Jagan Mohan Reddy’s visit to Rentapalli village in Sattenapalli mandal where the ex-CM was scheduled to unveil a statue.
The event turned tragic as the victim was knocked down by a vehicle in the convoy as it passed through the area. This happened when the deceased was reportedly attempting to shower flowers on Reddy.
The footage that has surfaced shows the moment the man fell near the front-end of the vehicle which continued to move forward with the wheels apparently running over his neck.
As the tragedy unfolded, eyewitnesses rushed to his rescue and alerted the law enforcement. Soon after, Singaiah was taken to Guntur Government Hospital for treatment but he succumbed to his injuries.
Media reports, citing Guntur Range IG Sarva Shrestha Tripathi, mentioned that despite the official permission of only three vehicles, around 30 to 35 vehicles were in the convoy.
Reports citing officials stated that a thorough inquiry will be carried out to determine how unauthorised vehicles joined the convoy and actions will be taken against those found responsible.
Meanwhile, police have registered a case into the death of the YSRCP supporter and are probing all the possible angles as Singaiah’s family demanded justice and a thorough probe into the circumstances leading to his death.
I am sure they will come up with many valid conclusions, within the next 20-30 years or so.
