"A 19-year-old identified as M.D.V.G. died after being stabbed in the Puerto Bolívar parish of the Machala canton . This event was recorded on security cameras.

The incident occurred at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, September 26 , 2022, when he was sitting on a corner near the Simon Bolívar school.

According to the police report, the young man did not survive and died when he was transferred by ambulance to the Teófilo Dávila hospital, where his death was confirmed.

The recording shows that M.D.V.G. is sitting looking at his cell phone. Moments later two people arrive on a motorcycle. One of them gets out, approaches to take the cell phone. The young man resists a little and dodges him. Before that, the assailant stabs him in the back and they flee the place."

In fact a whole lotta people can’t even put them down… it’s ridiculous to me to see a couple walking their two dogs together while each looking at their own cellphones.

This is why you don't dawdle in transitional spaces... keep your head on a swivel and stay off the phone until you're somewhere safe. Speaking from personal experience,
failure to pay attention to your surroundings will make you a victim one way or another.
