Re: Dude Tries to Play Dead Against a Sniper (Syria)
He never stood a chance, he was dead the moment that person with the Draganov saw him. The true strength exhibited in this sad snapshot in wartime is the restraint his comrades/friends or family showed by not running to save him. Tagging or tapping down is one of the oldest naughty tricks of the long range shooter. He just waits for help to rush out and he can then either take all comers out or allow a recovery of the often almost bled out first tap and clip another fresh person. One with a healthy blood supply and who will scream in pain, (and you do) shout and plead for his comrades to help him after all they nearly all got back with the first person and it was probably a random round that hit the second one....after all it didnt kill him it hit him in the thigh shattering the bone (the closer the person to safety the "heavier" the injury needs to be. A foot, an ankle, shin, shoulder or arm at over 30 yards as by the time they stop playing possum and realise they are still in the persons sights they have often been reminded of their peril by the sting of a round through the hand or other none vital part and they get more and more panicky begging for help drawing the others in to the trap. Closer to help the injury as I said above has to be more traumatic, idealy visually shocking a thigh shot down it length (not from front to back but when the person is lying down pleading for help a shallow round that hits and runs from the top of the thigh to the knee area) as the muscle is under tension (it is anyway but more so when your fighting for your life) it will peel open like a sharp knife cutting a hot cooking sausage along its length. Surprisingly your not likely to die from this kind of wound as trauma shock clamps the larger blood ways either cutting off blood completely or reducing it to a steady ooze either way its going to hurt like you can barely imagine and its going to shock those watching you..... Its a dirty game but an effective one as you can guarantee that that for each wounded person there will be 3 or more waiting to try and help them. Often the best thing to do is throw them a small first aid kit and leave them. The shooter will either leave them to absorb money and manpower as a casualty or put one through their head and move on to another corner and more gullible people........... On a foot note....the Dragunov rifle without a doubt in use here (it was definately a multi-shot semi auto) is an awesome weapon frequently looked down upon and disregarded by servicemen with more modern and higher tech weapons....often at their peril. The civil war in Bosnia saw these used to tremendous effect. A small well placed team armed with little more than a skilled rifleman and a Dragunov could virtually close a mountain road. To conceal themselves they would set up dummy "campsites" with fires and lamps going and recorded conversations or music being played to give the impression of an unruly rabble (there where plenty of them out there, so the obvious decoy could not be written off, each had to be checked out or observed before you would hopefully see an accidental something that would expose the real location and then if separate the rifleman's hide..... Bosnia (FRY) - A lifetime away and almost a distant memory that visits me most every night..... |
