Radiant heat from a fire like this will seriously screw you if you get too close. That’s why they backed away. While bushfires here in Oz are waaay waaay bigger than this, radiant heat can kill people 100 metres (330 feet) AWAY from the flames. So scale that down and you can understand why they couldn’t get within a few metres of this poor bugger.

No chance of pulling him out , that fuel make the heat too intense. There is a reason people jumped to a certain death from the twin towers , intense heat is unbearable.
