Re: Double Tap in China

corruption.

i'm betting that wealthy 3rd-worlders are miffed and astounded when they emigrate to the USA and are legitimately expected to do things like actually demonstrate basic driving competency with a certified instructor sitting in their passenger seat.
You'd be surprised with the shit they get away with here and in Canada. There was a Chinese guy who was the son of a Billionaire Chinese guy who son crashed a car killing a bystander. He wasn't even detained and they let him go back to china.

Re: Double Tap in China

Look at the 2nd video. Both the driver and the pax open their doors while the car is backing up, presumably to get out. It looks to me like when the driver realizes the car is still rolling, panic ensues and the driver throws it into Drive, tries to stomp the brake but stomps the gas, rockets over the vic and t-bones another car.

Anyway, the ped is clearly j-walking into the vehicle lane (not the crosswalk) with her back to traffic. Looks like an insurance scam to me.

Re: Double Tap in China

This isn't a surprise, and it doesn't come down to the driving skills of this individual after the 1st hit.

In China, injuring someone tends to result in the assailant being responsible for the victim's care, at times for the remainder of their life.

Conversely, killing that same individual may result in compensation for the victim's family, but it's a fraction of the cost.

As a result, the driver here, after seeing the extent of the harm caused, decided to ensure that they would only need to compensate the family once, as opposed to a lifetime.

...It's batshit crazy, and I don't think it's actually a part of the formal laws of the nation, but the cultural tradition is very, very strong.
I was going to mention this very same thing (thank you for doing so already). I've seen plenty of videos where Chinese drivers intentionally roll over victims multiple times, even small children, for the reason you cite. I already thought China was a totally f****d up country, but that little nugget of info sealed the deal. Don't even get me started on the Yulin dog meat festival!

Wait. We have no pedestrian accidents in the USA? It’s amazing, you’ve made up an imaginary type of person in your brain and then got outraged at your imaginary person. Sucks to be you. Small point :
Pedestrians were not using crosswalk and certainly not being careful.
