I agree with you. Some are very compassionate members of society who make great accomplishments that benefit us all. Unfortunately though, my personal experiences with humans and animals have painted a picture of humanity as nothing short of cruel, apathetic, and capable of acts much more violent and senseless than anything that occurs within the animal kingdom. The flip side of that is that my experiences with animals have shown that they are capable of unconditional love, forgiveness, and trust even after horrific treatment at the hands of their human "caretakers". No human subjected to some of those abuses would ever trust another person again.
