A gang member was hacked to death and dismembered with machetes by at least two rival gang members in an abandoned property. Civilians called the police after hearing loud screams coming from the property. Two men were arrested at the scene.

Police raided an abandoned house after receiving reports of suspicious activity. They caught the attackers mid-act.

Police seized a firearm and the bloody machete used to dismember the victim.

The two arrested suspects are confirmed members of the Barrio 18 gang, Diego de Jesús Herrera Rodríguez, 28, known by the alias El Sicópata (The Psychopath) and a 16-year-old minor, known by the alias El Diabólico. He was the one holding the machete when police breached the property.

While being transported in the police patrol unit, the suspects stated that the victim was originally from the municipality of San José Pinula and had moved to Zone 18 just days prior.

The suspects had been tracking his movements, identifying him as a member of the rival Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) gang.

The killing was an execution meant to eliminate rival presence from Barrio 18's stronghold in Zone 18. Investigators also recovered the victim's blood-stained clothing from the scene.

My theory, as far as rural people go, is that they are desensitized from butchering animals so moving on to humans isn't too much of a leap. However, I don't think everyone has experience butchering animals so that theory may not hold up in all cases.
