A horrific incident of suspected social revenge has devastated the Dahanji Market in Beijing’s Fangshan District on the morning of March 29, when a man driving a front end loader plowed into a dense crowd of morning shoppers, leaving a trail of destruction and numerous casualties.

Leaked video footage, which are heavily censored on Chinese social media platforms, shows a scene of absolute chaos.

The driver reportedly steered the massive construction vehicle through the market’s narrow lanes, crushing stalls and driving over pedestrians.

Witnesses stated that the driver did not stop after the initial impact but continued to maneuver the vehicle back and forth to maximize the damage.

While Chinese authorities have not yet released an official death toll, reports emerging from eyewitnesses estimate the death toll between 8 and 13, with many reportedly dying instantly at the scene.

Dozens of others were rushed to nearby hospitals with life-altering injuries.

The driver, identified only as a man in his 50's, was eventually stopped when a group of enraged bystanders managed to swarm the vehicle.

True to the pattern of sensitive incidents in the capital, the Chinese government has moved swiftly to control the narrative and videos are currently blocked on platforms like Weibo and Douyin.

The market has been cordoned off, and a notice at the entrance claims the site is closed for urgent maintenance and renovation.

The Beijing Public Security Bureau has remained silent, and no formal charges have been publicized against the driver.
