I had to watch it several times to understand what really happened. It appears that the energy from the fall of the main piece was transferred not into the ground but to the smaller piece already heading in a lateral movement...making each piece a several pound missile.

What's so difficult about this?! I always tell my victims where to stand before being hit by flying debris.
