Manaus is right on the equator and just started their summer season. So, it's been pretty hot (90-100℉/32-38℃) with no precipitation. Even though the forest region typically doesn't ever drop below 50% relative humidity just the environmental conditions could reduce an average adult dead body to skin and bones in about two weeks. If you factor in bugs, birds, and other predation his body looks about par for being dead 16 days IMHO.
