Re: Death by Tire Explosion
I always did with my last set of tyres cos those fuckers were old and becoming barely legal tread-wise (I know, stupid, but I procrastinate shit like this). Every time I put air in them I was terrified they'd blow up in my face. Just seeing how worn and tired the rubber looked... and I wondered even at 36PSI they'd bust. Then the fear of tyres just... stripping themselves off the damn wheel on motorways. Whats up with that? I see them so often.. clearly truck tyres, and a nice full strap of the tread. I've always wanted to know what causes that in particular... and if it could happen to me. Not keen on flying down the freeway at 120kmh, blowing a tyre right off and losing control totally out of nowhere. But I still really fucking love driving lol |

Re: Death by Tire Explosion
They are a split rim wheel. It uses a split snap ring on one side of the wheel to hold the tire bead in place. It's an old design that is extremely dangerous. A lot of countries outlaw them from use on commercial applications but unfortunately a few farmers and other private parties still use them. ORT truck tires are are filled to 120psi. You should never fill split rims past 45psi until you get them installed on the vehicle or in a tire cage. This happens a lot.

Re: Death by Tire Explosion
Ok, so on a HOT day an idiot fills up an old, worn out tire to the brim with air pressure. Then he doused it in cool water, so it's perched to pop. Tries moving it, has to touch it... Just hoping he was going to sell that old dangerous tile to an unsuspecting person. So the reaper took the right one |

Re: Death by Tire Explosion
That was a truck rim. A steel band on it came off. They differ from regular pickup or road car wheels. I had a truck tyre go on me as i was exiting a motorway down a sliproad in my car and the truck wheel was head level with me as it continued level and i decended the off ramp. The truck tyre blew and filled my cab with bits of shrapnel and tyre crap. I was peppered all on my right side of face. Luckily no lasting damage just took by surprise as when they go they are fooking loud and the concussion was quite remarkable. |

I was worried about the dog too but I think he’s OK. I just hate it when people die when they are working hard at an ordinary job it makes me very sad.
