First thing I read this morning and also my first thought. Turkey is anti Assad and Russia is pro Assad, but Assad has his hands full right now. Putin is laughing matter though. He's not going to take kindly to having one of his planes shot down.

They also could have escorted any aircraft out of their airspace, IF they even flew inside turkish territory..

Thats called De-escalation
