I kinda wish Americans would have funerals like that. I don't want my last memory of a loved one to be them lying in a coffin. Seems to me propping someone up in a "natural" position, one they might have often been in when alive, might make it easier to mentally say goodbye. Now had it been a case where the person was cremated and the funeral home employees had drawn objects such as a smiley face using the ashes, then I would have said that's creepy. Americans and probably many other cultures have some hangups about funerals. They have to proceed a certain way and deviation from the norm is socially unacceptable. imo if handling a funeral differently helps family and friends deal with the death, more power to them. The dead person won't care either way. |
