Here another (similar) version: Niagara Falls rescuers recover woman's body 51-year-old was from southern Ontario city The body of a woman swept over the brink of Niagara Falls after she was seen on the Canadian side of the Niagara River has been recovered. The 51-year-old woman was pulled from the water at 4:47 p.m. ET on Tuesday by Niagara police and fire department personnel sent to the shoreline below the Horseshoe Falls. "The indication is that there's nothing to suggest foul play ... nothing to suggest at this time that this was a drowning accident," Const. Nilan Davé of the Niagara Regional Police Service in southern Ontario told CBC.ca around noon on Wednesday. He added that based on the circumstances, the name of the Niagara Falls, Ont., woman won't be released. The recovery efforts were aided by two Maid of the Mist employees, according to an NRPS release. Maid of the Mist is a company with offices in both Ontario and New York that offers boat tours below the voluminous waterfalls. Officials said tourists on the Canadian side of the river reported seeing the woman in the water above the falls around 4:30 p.m. Witnesses on one tour boat told Buffalo television station WIVB that they saw the woman go over the falls, and she was dead by the time a rescue boat reached her in the river below. Earlier reports said tourists apparently saw the woman swimming in the river, but that hasn't been confirmed by police. |
