Using the turn signal indicated the driver was making a routine turn. Perhaps the driver (with the aid of alcohol) misjudged the speed of the approaching train. Approach speed can be easy to misjudge driving at night when all you see is an approaching light. (as an aside) Now that car lighting systems vary so much in intensity, it is hard to gauge the distance of approaching cars at night anymore. |

As someone who's lived right next door to railroad tracks for nearly 40 years, driving over the crossings day in & day out, I am never not amazed at the stupidity of some drivers.
