Video shows the exact moment when a motorist, who drives a VW pick-up truck at high-speed, hit and kills a couple that crosses a state highway in Brazil.

The accident occurred last Saturday (06), around 8 PM. The road was dark and the driver did not see the couple. They were identified as R. F. d. S. and J. d. J. The man was hurled up to 70 meters and the woman to 30 meters.

The 38-year-old driver attempted to help the victim, but was almost lynched by the population and needed help from the Civil Police to leave the accident scene.

Carrying stones and pieces of wood, villagers went up to him and threw stones at the car and the cops. One cop even fired shots to "try to contain the mob", a Police officer told.

The residents shouted for justice and applauded when the police stopped the driver and put him in the squad car. His 27-year-old girlfriend, who was sitting next to him, was also taken into the car for safety reasons.

A team from the Traffic Control Specialists Unit went to the scene and performed a breathalyzer test on the driver and found that he had not drunk alcohol.

He had his car and personal documentation up to date and since he did not flee the scene and tried to provide help, he was not arrested.

I feel bad for the people that died, but at some point you have to understand that it's hard to see people in the dark, even with headlights. Once they started across the street they didn't bother to recheck the lanes they were walking in to make sure there wasn't any danger until it was too late. I've been surprised a couple times by people crossing the street in the dark, luckily they had cleared the lane I was in before I got there.

those idiots in the mob just wanted to maim or kill the driver.... I wonder if the place the couple left from was a bar or club where they were well known, because that's a pretty big group of folks that forms very quickly..

These 2 assholes walk onto a busy road, get struck by a sober law abiding citizen. Being the good Samaritan, tried to render aid, then almost gets lynched.. Really fucked up situation altogether
