You got that right! I also was raised near train tracks, and there used to be a trestle made of wood that I would occasionally sit under when the train was passing. It was REALLY scary and REALLY thrilling. You could not only hear and see, but sense the huge weight that was moving over you just a few inches above you. The huge beams would flex as the locomotive passed over. You could FEEL the weight in your body. It was really scary. I would sit at the end of the trestle, right where the riverbank came up to the railroad track, and there was a space about 3 feet high there. That is where I would sit. My friends sometimes came with me. Our heads were just 12" or so from the locomotive wheels. We could see the sparks and stuff from the electric motor drives. The diesel engine really roared. That was over 50 years ago, and I haven't forgotten it at all.
