One of the men, identified as R.B, 32, was found in the 3600 block of Georgetown Place and brandished a gun in front of the officers, which led to the officers firing their weapons.

R.B. was sent to University of Louisville Hospital, where he died from his injuries the next day.

The officers who fired their weapons were B. W, who has served for five years, and C. B, who has served for four months.

Good shooting, as far as I'm concerned.
If you have a gun around police, you should drop it. If you don't, you should be shot. There is no reason they should try and deal with someone who is armed. If I was a cop, I sure would shoot.

Why would they handcuff him after they clearly blew his brains out?

Justified.. He had a deadly weapon and could have harmed others..

It is redundant to cuff a person that is mortally wounded, but is SOP

Believe it or not, I read something that said it's procedure about a lifetime ago. Maybe a real cop can chime in instead of me, just another idiot on the internet.

LEO present, but not from USA.
If you use deadly force that means you have been put in a very dangerous situation to yourself or to the public. Why on earth would you take chances by letting someone you just shot go uncuffed?
As a side note, if the guy lives he would be arrested anyway, so that would mean handcuffs too

Re: Cops Shoot and Kill Fleeing Guy Brandishing a Gun

I'm not a cop currently. I spent nearly 2 years as a police officer and another 2 at the Sheriff's Department.

And you're right, it's procedure. The logic is cop's are not doctors or have medical degrees. (usually)

So instead of allowing law enforcement to make calls on whether a person is dead, and doesn't or does have the ability to harm themselves or others. It's just a blanket rule, handcuff all suspects involved in a felony no matter their condition unless doing so further endangers their life.

I'm certain at some point this rule came into place because of an instance where law enforcement believed an injured suspect was dead or no longer a threat. And they ended up being wrong about that.
