Seems like cops weren't aware of the situation--the guy was threatening to kill HIMSELF--no one else. Plus he attempted to shut the door several times--how is that threatening the cops in any way? This seems to be the way to handle any situation where there's resistance--taze em down and then shoot em dead.

Cop did seem to show compassion when his tone switched from arrogant cop-mode to trying to calm him down before the shit hit the fan. If this happened in Russia, they probably would have shot him through the door, or beatr him senseless into submission with long pointy clubs so they could remain out of knife-reach.

The cop did everything he could to resolve this without a fatal shooting. He even went further then most cops would or should go. At one point he was next to the guy gently coaxing him to drop the knife, within range of a knife swing. Kudos on the cop. It's a shame the guy was shot, but he just wouldn't drop that knife.
