The Montgomery County Department of Police continues to investigate the officer-involved shooting that occurred on May 7 in White Oak.

The officer involved in the shooting is identified as Sergeant David Cohen, an approximately 17-year veteran of the Department.

He is currently assigned to the Patrol Services Bureau and works in the 3rd District. As is protocol, Sergeant Cohen has been placed on paid administrative leave during this investigation.

The decedent has previously been identified as 30-year-old F. H. B. living in the White Oak area of Silver Spring.

At approximately 2:15 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, 3rd District officers responded to the area of the 1500 block of Hadden Manor Court for the report of a male who was in the parking lot of the neighborhood and causing a disturbance while armed with a large knife.

A 3rd District officer who was first to arrive at Hadden Manor Court observed the man armed with the knife in the parking lot. The officer exited his patrol car and gave several verbal commands to him to get on the ground and to drop the knife.

The man, while holding the knife, rushed at the officer and was shot by the officer. The officer attempted life-saving measures at the scene. Fire & Rescue personnel transported him to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

This incident in its entirety remains under investigation.

I wonder what would happen if police officers stopped aiming their weapons, and talked calmly in those situations, instead of screaming orders, in firing stance, etc. I am certainly not implying holstering their weapon, or putting it down....just not aim it directly! As well, de-escalate the situation by talking calmly, simply, telling the “perp” they will not get hurt, all will be fine, you don’t want to do this, etc. just put down the weapon!

cop is actually a courageous angel and hero. he shot that man and it felt good and nothing anybody can do about it
