Well if the cartels can cut your heart out and it keeps beating outside your body, I'd say you're dead. But really its just idiots that are claiming "near death" experiences or having come back to life after dying that like to embellish the idea of being "clinically dead" and then alive again. Always attributing it to jesus or some other stupid children's fairytale of the same sort.
Bottom line is, if your brain is dead, you're dead. No amount of heart beating will bring you back without your brain.
