Re: China - Man Dies in a Shop After Paying for His Goods

I've seen this many, many times in China where they could give 2 fucks less about trying to help someone. I mean, there are ignorant cold assholes in every country. But it seems like China is on a whole other tier of there own when it comes to not giving a fuck.
It's a lot more complicated, and it's truly not so much about not caring; more being utterly terrified that they'll be on the hook to support the victim.

This is the cultural, and in many cases, the legal norm in China, and there have been incidents of good Samaritans being sued (successfully) as a result their trying to help.

Keep in mind that this responsibility of care can last for the rest of the victim's life.

Oh, and once again, by tradition, financial ruin is considered justified as a form of penance.

While good Samaritan laws are fairly commonplace in the west, China only passed them at a federal level in 2017.

Re: China - Man Dies in a Shop After Paying for His Goods

Either that or sudden cardiac death, which could have possibly be reversed had ANYBODY tended to him. I lost a friend last week from an aneurysm. Hers was very slow. She was disoriented and spatially impared for a couple of days prior. She just didn't wake up one morning.
Sorry to hear about your friend. I lost someone a few years ago like that also, in her case it wasn't an aneurysm, she had epilepsy. She just went to sleep one night, had a seizure, and never woke up.

The whole ignoring the situation seems to be a trend in china. Seen it again and again.
I read a few years ago that it’s because of some weird laws or customs over there.. that if you stop and render assistance you instantly become legally and financially responsible for any future treatment required.

Re: China - Man Dies in a Shop After Paying for His Goods

While you're information is correct, automatically calling this one a stroke seems a little premature, mostly because it's impossible to know all his symptoms from a video like this, and the ones we do see could fit a number of situations.

It doesnt showcase the most common symptoms of a st.roke or aneurysm. We cant see his face to see if its drooping, we cant hear him speak to know if hes slurring his words or having trouble speaking, we cant ask him if hes feeling any pain or numbness and if he is, where is he feeling it, his vision seemed fine (he had no issue paying or grabbing his stuff or walking to the door opening and even braced himself before falling), he didnt show any signs of arm weakness, these are all examples of things you can typically feel coming on before the actual event.

Due of the sudden onset, I believe a cardinal infarction is probably a better guess here.

‐---‐----

Here's a mnemonic for diagnosing a stroke that everyone should be aware of, as it could save you or someone else's life.

It’s called a MYOcardinal Infarction, not a Cardinal Infarction, you pompous twit.

A ‘Cardinal Infarction’ would be the death of bodily tissue in a Senior Catholic Bishop.

If you’re going to try lecturing everyone about how knowledgeable you are, then try harder to hide the clumsy google searches you used.

Re: China - Man Dies in a Shop After Paying for His Goods

For all those commenting on the lack of intervention - unfortunately it's just the way things are in China. People are too scared to do anything for fear of reprisals.

Getting involved could prove costly to yourself +/or getting in trouble (even if you've done nothing wrong). There have been people who have helped + ended up being billed for the patient's medical care. Some have even been wrongly accused of being the cause of the situation.

I'm sure there's much more to it, but that's the gist.
It's according to China's laws, there are some countries in Latin America where this is the case too Cuba can be an example, (By personal experience I'm aware than in Argentina, Brazil and Mexico you can help people and not be charged with, in Mexico you are even given recommendations on how to go about to help people out of a car wreck, that's why you'll see in Mexican accidents people actively trying to help, in Argentina and Brazil this is similar to a lesser extent.)

In China when someone intervenes in a crime or accident scene the law considers them an accessory, so, if a wounded person dies while you are taking care of him/her then you can be responsible for his/her death even though it was someone else who caused him/her the injuries in the first place, hence the "shitty attitude" of Chinese people in the presence of accident victims.
Then if you add to that the possible death sentence by rifle shot for murder you might begin to understand why they seem to be so "callous" and "insensitive" towards poor accident victims.

Sheers!

In America this might also be the case, it could vary from state to state but I'm not sure, at least in California you could end up facing a BIG-ASS civil lawsuit!

more being utterly terrified that they'll be on the hook to support the victim.
This seems extreme as I still think most people really don’t care. You probably aren’t as likely to get famous (social media) in China for randomly helping strangers as you are in the West. The CCP (and media companies) don’t publicize stuff like that. Take away social media here and things would probably change too, I bet.
