Even if they weren't trying to quarter him for dinner, cutting the brachial artery in both arms would ensure he bleeds out quickly (even thought I'm sure the head shots promptly ended him.)

Yeah the head shots definitely passed him over to the dark side, I suppose he wanted to test his knife out too
