Because he knew them. You can see the other gunmen point his gun at him saying something to the other guy. I'm guessing he said something like " this is that dude from ..." And the other other gunmen just shoots him.

Which is why if you have a tiny opportunity with a 10% chance of working. Do it. Guy had his back to him 2 seconds before he shot. He should have grabbed his ankles and ripped those things up to the ceiling as fast as possible slapped the gun or the guy at the door immediately after and ran out that door closing it if possible. You never know, might have worked. Especially if the other guy in the room helps once you got the gunmen down.

Hell with a little luck you might knock him unconscious or toothless or gunless. The dude at the door didn't seem to want to shoot anyone as he booked it out of there the second the shot was fired. Most killers want to get them a taste and will pop off some rounds too.
