Talking about the orbs - the reason they appear en masse like that is like it was said before, they likely were killed there and they're swirling around the room like a shark feeding frenzy. They are feeding on the fear of this guy about to be killed. Fear is a very strong emotion. Spirits can feed off of any strong emotion like that.
