I live in Texas. I don't know if it's a state law but, when I was a kid, the grown-ups ALWAYS put a safety chain that runs from the thing you're pulling to the vehicle just in case something like this happens. So easy to do and it would have saved this woman's life.

I remember when my sister (the stereotypical "woman driver") took her young son and his cousins on a camping trip. Needless to say, she didn't hitch her trailer properly. They're driving on the highway, going down a graded area, and the kids suddenly point and yell, "AUNT MAUREEN! LOOK!" She looks out her driver side window and there's the trailer coasting along directly beside the car  |
