A little bit of both imo. But the rider has the responsibility to ride safe, and riding between cars or big trucks is dangerous.

I think lane splitting is a bad idea, even if it is legal. You're always one mistake by a complete stranger away from death.

I've never understood the mentality of many bikers. You will never hear a biker say that people are good drivers, and the road is full of cautious and attentive drivers. No, they will always say the opposite.

But then ride like they have complete trust and faith in everyone on the road.

There would be alot less bike deaths if riders their riding matched their words.

I do not own a car and I ride my bicycle here in the city. We have great bicycle lanes all over the city and I feel pretty safe. But I always keep an eye out because some dumb ass will open their vehicle door and I do not want to go splat or be road kill pizza.

^^niknik, lane splitting is legal in Calif. How many other places? MOST motorists have never heard of it- (lane splitting)-US, Except Calif. Illegal in my state location. So they call the biker a SOB.
