From the limited evidence in front of me, it appears that the bomb did not have a significant packaging of shrapnel around it. There are no signs of this damage on the bodywork or on surrounding vehicles. This may have been a deliberate attempt to limit the collateral damage. The blast also appears to exit the car vertically through the roof. Heavier examples of car bombs will often remove all the bodywork or even lift the vehicle into the air. This looks like the work of a small explosive device.

My guess is that it was planted under the driver's seat and the blast was mostly directed upward resulting in the survival of passengers. Flying debri and concussion can still be a b*tch though.  I suspect this because of my extensive military & CIA training in counterterrorism and explosives. But mostly, because I saw the movie "Casino" 3 times.  |
