I call bullshit.. with the rate of recidivism of criminals of general, and the likes of gangland killers and serial killers, FOR SURE murders have been prevented by whacking these douches ( not to mention every other horrible kind of crime). Maybe some crazed or spontaneous killers won't get the hint, but some will think twice before killing another. Although there should be incontrovertible evidence to warrant a death penalty. I am sure evidence is not so much in demand in a theocratic dictatorship like Iran.

and I don't expect capital punishment will dissuade shoplifters and burglars since we don't kill folks for that , so don't expect crime rates in general to drop
