Re: Canada: 23 Year-old Woman Killed in Stabbing at Crazy Cactus Bar in Saskatoon
The only things that are not covered under our socialized medical plan are elective surgeries (think boob jobs and face lifts), most prescriptions, and dentistry. If you have a job in Canada, your employer will almost certainly (if it's a job worth having) provide a benefits package that includes coverage for the majority of the cost of prescriptions and dentistry, as well as additional benefits like optometry and physio/chiro/massage. Up until a year or two ago, every Canadian citizen over 18 paid a $70 monthly premium to the medical services plan. They've done away with that and it is worked into income tax. Federal income taxes are certainly quite high in Canada - 15% on the first $50,000 you earn, and it goes up approx 5% on every 50 grand you earn after that. And then of course, there's provincial tax as well. Nothing is free. Taxed to death up here, undoubtedly. However, not having to budget for unexpected (as most are) medical bills eases the stress when they pop up. The few times I've needed surgery, I'm glad I didn't see a bill in the mail when the anesthetic wore off. Plus, my teeth are impeccably white. |

Re: Canada: 23 Year-old Woman Killed in Stabbing at Crazy Cactus Bar in Saskatoon
I had a conversation like this with a young Canadian guy at the Shot Show one year when Obama Care was all the rage. The tax rate at the time was somewhere around 40%, he made a little over $200k so he had paid right at $100k in taxes. (The tax rates you quoted are impossibly low, so you must have been quoting only 1 part). He was in his early 20's and had never had a catastrophic medical event, nor anyone he knew. He was so happy that if anything did happen he, "didn't have to worry about paying the medical bills". So i asked him, in the past few years, and the foreseeable future, since you are paying about $100k each year in taxes, how much of that do you get back if you don't have a catastrophic? He says confusingly, "well, uh, none of it?" So i ask him, if you saved $100k of your money a year for 5 years, how much would that account have available after 5 years? He didn't even have to say, "$500k" because it finally clicked in his head... Your health care isn't free, and you pay DEARLY for it. And you most likely won't need it for a very long time. And many people just like you will die suddenly, without ever using it. Not such a great plan is it? I'd rather keep my tax money and make my own decisions with it. I'm much better at budgeting than any government I've ever heard of... |

Sure looks like Murder to me! I love the color of the blood, so beautiful. I want to paint my car next year and I would love this color of red. I can't believe they downed her charges to manslaughter! She was on a wild ride!

Isn't that poetic justice. The decedent was the aggressor AND broke the bottle (weapon) that she fell on which took her life... The only reason this poor chick got charged with anything is race, great job woke-Canada... |

That changes it then doesn't it? Do you have a link to the information on this case? The video only tells one side, and to me it looked like she was getting stabbed in the back, but come to think of it, I didn't see any blood in her back. |

Wow I’m a long time member and I’ve never seen that amount of blood come out of someone that quickly. The only one I can remember that’s comparable is the drug smuggler that died in the airport. Its like she hit both sides of her carotid.
