A horrible situation. This is a good reason for most people to be trained in at least basic first aid and to carry an IFAK. You hope you never have to use it but it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. Hope they recover.

As long as someone doesn’t pull the pole out before getting them to surgery they might stand a good chance of surviving. Just cut the pole to separate them. If they pull it out too soon they could bleed to death as the pole might be the only thing preventing them from bleeding out internally.
