Re: California - Two Robbers Killed Whilst Trying to Burgle Gold Pawn Shop
lincoln didnt really 'end slavery'. he just called for it to be ended in the southern states that he didnt have power in, lol. lincoln is way overhyped cuz he was the commander in chief for the winning side in the US civil war, but in reality he was a tyrant. if people think trump is bad, boy oh boy hopefully they never hear the truth abt lincoln. anyway, i believe what is traditionally meant by 'lincoln's mistake' is that he didn't send them all home after the war. that was the original plan, after all. |

Re: California - Two Robbers Killed Whilst Trying to Burgle Gold Pawn Shop
You’re correct that the Emancipation Proclamation applied only to Confederate states, but it laid the groundwork for the 13th Amendment, which officially abolished slavery throughout the entire country. So we’re both kind of correct. lol The plan to "send them home" was discussed through early colonization efforts, but by the 1860s most black Americans were several generations removed from Africa. They were born here, built their lives here, and knew nothing else. There was no realistic or ethical way to uproot millions of people and send them to a place they had never lived. Trump isn’t a presiding president during the full duration of a full-on U.S. Civil War. Not yet anyway. Lincoln’s "tyrant" label comes mostly from those who argue that presidential powers were expanded during wartime. He suspended habeas corpus, authorized military arrests of civilians, and ordered the shutdown of certain newspapers that printed pro-Confederate material. His administration even used military tribunals for civilians accused of espionage or aiding the enemy. These actions are often viewed as authoritarian, but they occurred during a war that threatened the nation’s survival. I’m not defending those actions, only pointing out the historical context and why they happened. And really, every president has taken extreme or unpopular measures during times of crisis. I could point out actions by multiple wartime presidents that some might consider tyrannical, though none have faced a full-scale U.S. Civil War.

"According to the owner, a gang of five robbers had entered the shop, and he initially presumed they were customers." Is he kidding? Wearing hoodies and masks? |
