I don't think you understand. In any fight scenario there are 2 roles...Attacker and Defender. It doesn't matter who started it. The roles of attacker and defender switch depending on which party is currently engaged in trying to defeat their opponent. At the time that the lady was was using the knife to defend herself, she was assuming the role of attacker and the man, regardless of weather he started the fight or not, was the defender of that particular attack.
