Businessman in His Audi Rams into People on Bikes and Roadside Huts
One person died and eight others were injured in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur town on Tuesday when a speeding Audi rammed into several two-wheelers in front of the vehicle before going off the road and crashing into roadside hutments. The accident was captured on a close circuit television camera. Video shows a white Audi ramming two-wheelers, some of the riders were flung a few feet into the air, as the car drove off the road into the hutments. Police said the person driving the car was identified as A.N. A case for culpable homicide not amounting to murder has been registered under the Indian Penal Code. The driver is a businessman and he recently bought the car. The accused has claimed that his feet got stuck between the accelerator and the brake and therefore, he was not able to control the car. He surrendered to the police soon after. His medical test did not show any presence of alcohol in his blood. The man who died in the accident was identified as M. Of the eight injured, three were commuters and rest were those people who were in the hutments. |

Re: Businessman in His Audi Rams into People on Bikes and Roadside Huts
AUDI 'sudden unintended acceleration' was a huge story in the 1980's in the USA. Several people ran over and hurt or killed relatives in their driveways and claimed their AUDIs took off themselves. The eventual court verdict IIRC was something like "cars will accelerate when the gas pedal is pressed". But some engineers / experts noted that the gas and brake pedals were a bit closer on AUDIs than other cars of that time. I had a 1983 AUDI Quattro 4000 (Americans love big numbers, I think the same car was the AUDI 80 in Europe). It was stick shift and fun to drive. Once in my driveway I accidently hit the gas and brake at the same time, the car lunged about 10 feet before I caught it. It was definitely pedal location design. I have driven many cars before and since (Chevrolets, Oldsmobiles, VWs, BMW's, Mercedes, KIA, Toyotas, Hondas, Porsches, Mazdas, Fords, Chryslers, Ferraris) and never hit the gas and brake simultaneously. But that was a long time ago. This Indian was probably just a bad driver... |
