A confrontation between police and drug traffickers during a police operation in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro left dead and injured on the morning of this Thursday (24).

An employee at a meatpacking plant, identified as Renato O., 48 years old, was shot in the head whilst sleeping on a bus. He was taken to hospital, where he underwent surgery, but he did not survive his injuries.

A 60-year-old app driver, Paulo R.d.S., and a 49-year-old truck driver, Geneilson E.R., were also killed amidst the shootout.

These types of incidents always amazes me. The timing of being in the exact spot at that exact time is unreal. Had literally anything taken up just a second more time throughout that bus ride, the bullet would have probably missed him. But everything that happened before then put him in that exact time and place.

Life really is a video game. You're just trying to dodge bullets and live as long as possible. But, as you can see here, some times you just have no control over the outcome.

Actually, the most relaxed I have ever felt in my life was on a bus in Rio in May 1991. I was in my mid 20's and had been working extraordinarily long hours in automation software in Chicago. The company flew me down to train a new customer in Brazil. My bones and soul felt good riding the Rio busses in the nice weather, that never happens to me.
