The thing is... I could understand this if this guy raped a family member... but I have a strange feeling it's over drugs or a pack of cigarettes or like 20 bucks or something.

I think he might be using a pick of some kind. He never slices the guy; and as much as his hand slips, there would be some visible blood if it were cutting him.
