20 year old Reynaldo Cuevas worked at a bodega owned by his uncle Jesus in Bronx, New York. On September 6th, 2012 the store was being robbed by 3 lowlifes brandishing a .32 caliber pistol. The thieves forced two bodega workers, including Reynaldo Cuevas on the ground.

After the police who responded to the robbery report arrived, the thieves tried to hide, giving the workers an opportunity to make a dash for their lives and flee. Felix Mora ran out first, followed by Reynaldo Cuevas who, on his way out of the bodega plowed into an officer who had his loaded gun drawn. The encounter resulted in a discharge which killed the worker.

New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said the discharge was accidental, maintaining that the officer followed the procedure. NY1 reported that according to their source, this was the first time the 7 year NYPD veteran fired his weapon.

The robbers – 28 year old Ernesto Delgado, 28 year old Orlando Ramos and 17 year old Christopher Dorsey were arrested and charged with murder, robbery and weapons possession. Although the cop (accidentally) killed the victim, under NY state law if someones dies during the course or act of a felany like armed robbery it's the perps that get charged with murder. Reynaldo Cuevas left behind a 3 year old daughter. RIP! Surveillance video of the shooting released to the public by NYPD is below:
