Re: A British Backpacker, 21, Drowned in Cambodia Because He Couldn’t Swim
I know people who aren't "natural" swimmers - they have no natural buoyancy and have to work really hard to stay afloat, so swimming is harder for them. That said, they still can swim, and could if needed, they're just not great at it. This guy, I don't get. You never go out of your depth if you aren't confident, even with a ring. That pic of him on the jetty - how did he get out there? |

I don't meant to bump, but how exactly does one learn to swim before getting in water |

Maybe he got drugged up and decided to go for a dip. You know, how some people think they can fly after some crack.

Who the hell doesn't know how to swim? I was diving in the deep end and swimming to the bottom at age 3! I feel bad for the guy, but damn...common sense, dude. I can't ski, so don't think you're going to find my ass on a ski slope! Duh! |

Re: A British Backpacker, 21, Drowned in Cambodia Because He Couldn’t Swim
Well. You can know how to swim and still drown. I knew this one young guy (18) who swam regularly at this particular lake. Saw him the day before at work. And then the next day hearing he had drowned. Sad shit. I took swimming lessons as a kid. I was freaked out every time I got in those pools at the Y. And then during one summer, I was 13/14, this group I volunteered with went tubing at the Delaware river. Scariest experience ever. I don’t even remember if there were adults in the water with us. I just remember going through really fast flowing water and clasping hands with the other kids who were in my group as we were just floating with the water. |
