Bricklayer That Was Accidentally Shot Dead by a Cop

A man was killed this morning while working on building a house in Rio's West Zone. The victim is 45-year-old bricklayer J. P. B. J.

A man who identified himself as the owner of the building where J. worked stated that the bricklayer was shot while "lifting" a slab.

"They just killed a worker on my flagstone! The guy making my flagstone! The working guy, man, the cop fired. There was nobody, there was nobody.

The cop just went away It's amazing how we are suffering here." the resident said. Residents accuse military police of shooting at the bricklayer. According to reports, four PM's and one car were in the favela when a shooting started. J. was accidentally hit and, according to residents, was not rescued by the police.

Residents accusing an unidentified military police officer of being the author of the shooting.

"They rushed her [the policewoman] out of here. They were calling her a murderer. Four policemen coming from Avenida Brasil are going to have an operation? It was a lot of shooting. We tried to help the boy, but there was no way out for six minutes straight, "said one resident who asked not to be identified.

The police reported that there was a 14th BPM operation in the community near the Avenida Brasil exit when agents were attacked by armed criminals. According to the PM, a battalion vehicle was hit.

Soon after, the police were informed that a man had been injured and the 14th BPM command ordered a team to go to the Municipal Hospital to check on the incident.

J, according to reports from a resident, had already made renovations in several houses in the area. By the time he was hit, the bricklayer was about to lift another slab from the pension he had worked in for about three months.

People close to the victim said that when he was shot, he had nails in his hand and a hammer at his side. The bricklayer also sold roast chicken on Sundays.

J. was shot around 10am. Until 3 pm, the mason's relatives and friends continued to wait for Civil Police experts to come to the site.

In a statement, the Capital Homicide Police (DH) reported that an investigation was launched to investigate the circumstances of his death.

Don’t the Sicarios down there often dress as police, and use police vehicles in order to not rouse suspicion? Just seems super strange for it to be a random killing. You’d think the cops there have more than enough legitimate targets to be killing.

Even bricklayers work in flip flops there.

The problem may have been the presence of an ON-duty officer.

I could have done without all the details of this sad tale, except the roasted chicken on Sundays. That part made me cry. I mean, who goes and kills a man who sells roasted chicken on Sundays? There autta be a law.

Looks like he was trying to fall in the hole, but just couldn't get the last sequence down
