A sergeant from the Military Police of Piauí was shot after reacting to a robbery in the state capital of Teresina on Monday morning (9).

According to the Military Police (PM), Sergeant Oliveira, who was off duty, was approached by six individuals - two on motorbikes, four inside a car - who tried to steal his weapon. The sergeant was near a store when he was approached by the criminals. He tried to fight back, but he ended up being shot several times by one of the suspects.

Later, while the criminals tried to flee the scene, the sergeant fought back and managed to shoot one of them, who died at the scene. During the escape, the rest of the criminals crashed their getaway vehicle, and had to flee on foot.

Sergeant Oliveira was taken to hospital for surgery, and his health condition has been described as stable. At least two criminals believed to have been involved have been arrested, and police have raided their "crime shop", used to house drugs and stolen vehicles.
