Sarandi, Paraná, Brazil A 22-year-old man, Rafael A.L., lost both his life and his dignity when he was shot in front of a convenience store. Rafael had no criminal history, but had borrowed money to pay off a debt, according to friends. |

Unfortunately I think that's probably what most people would do in this kind of situation. Our "flight" mode has not evolved enough to include firearm threats At last, we see a Brazilian that looks like he actually knows how his country works. You saw how he jumped to catch that blind and down it ? Good job |

Usually, the best or maybe only response to a ranged weapon (if you can't quickly get somewhere to just not be hit) is to try to close the range. You might still die or be severely injured, but you might also injure your attacker too or at least hinder their getting away clean, or at least get (your) blood on them, who knows? Some lesser-experienced shootists are briefly flummoxed by targets not trying to run away or even coming right at them, and their sudden-panic re-aiming could work in your favor JUST enough. Can't count on that, of course, but yeah it could crucially beat running away in a straight line....
