By mentioning he is a drug user is mentioning he lives a "high risk" life style. Not all drug users are drug addicts and not all drug users are involved in dangerous situations because of it. In countries or states where you buy your drugs on the streets,from dealers,from criminals, its not shocking you could get mixed up in some fucked shit. That's all it was saying by mentioning he is a drug user, probably had a debt, didn't pay, got killed.

I'm sure an initial medical assessment was done. Sometimes there is really nothing that can be done, aside from palliative aide. If he was conscious, he would have been all over the place in pain. It really doesn't matter if he was a drug addict or not. No one should die like this.
