You can NOT blame mom. I'm guessing she was a single mother and probably worked 2 jobs to provide and he was on his own most of the time, probably starting as a tween. I have seen absolutely ruthless dealers with mad respect for mothers, for me as an RN, elderly people, etc. They are always very respectful and momma can put the fear of God in them just with a look. But mom wasn't home much for working, and kids could come and go as they pleased. They meet up with the wrong people and are easily influenced at 12-13 yo and they want to be cool, be accepted. You can't blame mom when she has to work her tail off to provide, and that certainly doesn't mean she didn't instill those qualities in them and the street changed them. I'm not saying there aren't parents out there that are guilty of that, but many of them do teach their kids and the streets change them.
