Heck most of the wars we end up going to, our enemy is someone we've helped in the past because at the time it was politically convenient. WWII? The Russians were our allies because they were allied with Britain, and the US saw them as the lesser of two evils. When Russia invaded Afghanistan, we armed the Afghanis because Russia at the time was our enemy. And among those Afghani fighters was Bin Laden. When Iran and Iraq were at war we had armed Iraq because we were enemies of Iran. It goes on and on and on. Which is why I say, from now on, we shouldn't be completely isolationist, we should render humanitarian aid if called for, but we really need to get out of the Middle East entirely, don't go back unless we are directly threatened or attacked, and focus on the problems in the US, cause we've got more than enough of those.
