On September 25, officials from Hunt County, Texas, released bodycam footage of the shooting of 31-year-old J. P. in 2020.

The video was recorded on the bodycam of former Wolfe City police officer Shaun Lucas. He can be seen driving in his cruiser when he receives a report that there may be a physical altercation taking place at a convenience store.

J. P, 31, allegedly broke up a fight between a man & woman. He shakes hands with cop, Shaun Lucas, who later shows up at the scene.

When Lucas arrives at the store, J. P. can be seen standing at the entrance. J.P, whose demeanor is non-aggressive, asks the officer what was happening. The officer tells him to move back and informs him that he will be detained on suspicion of being involved in the altercation.

Upon hearing this, he turns around and walks away, which is when Lucas shoots him with a taser.

As he is affected by the taser, J. P. tries to run away but Lucas draws out his pistol and shoots the former 4 times. J.P. staggers into the parking lot and the officer continues following him and shouts at bystanders to move away.

Although Shaun was arrested on murder charges, he was acquitted of them all in September 2022.

After Shaun Lucas was found not guilty of murder, Lee Merritt, the J.P. family's attorney, revealed that they were planning to sue Wolfe City and Shaun Lucas in a civil suit.

In an official press release, Merritt stated that the bodycam footage revealed a blatant murder and said: "Unfortunately, the result that we saw from that jury simply doesn't match what we see in the video. This video was literally a smoking gun piece of evidence in this case."

This was murder, plain and simple. There was absolutely no reason for a firearm to be used here. The defense was that the victim reached for the taser. I sure didn't see that here and even if he did, that alone isn't a reason to execute someone. The jury was made up of all white people in a town known for its racism.

If I was black and found myself in racist parts of America, which is likely the majority of the USA, I would keep to myself and earn enough money to leave as quickly as possible. Hawaii could be a good location for high earners since they actually really dislike (hate?) white people, but have no problem with black people and whites are NOT the majority and do not make up all of the police force.
